MENDING PLATES AND OFFSET PLATES FOR CONSERVATION

Mending plates find wide use by paintings conservators to safely and reversibly hold artworks inside their frames. Unfortunately, plates that are commercially available for the mass market are now produced in brass-coated steel. Intended as a rigid and straight repair plate, they are bulkier than conservators require, form rounded and imprecise bends and will often break when bent.

We are fabricating mending plates to suit the needs of a conservator. We are also offering innovative pre-bent mending plates that can save a great deal of time, aggravation and waste when utilized in straightforward projects. These off-set plates are available in six different depths from 1/8" to 3/4", all with perfect bends and a uniformly sized flange that ensures a secure fit against the back of the work.

Both the straight and offset plates are custom fabricated of 0.05 gauge pure brass (3/64" thick). In the straight plate, this gauge is thick enough to ensure strength, but thin enough to bend precisely with conventional tools and to add minimal thickness at the back of the work.

ORDERS
We are pleased to announce that we have passed along the sales of mending plates to a new local company, Preservation Supply Services. Please direct all mending plate inquiries to sales@preservationsupplyservices.com.
